While this is, of course, the right thing to do, maybe someone should actively look into enforcing the laws regarding offensively loud music being played after the legally allowed time. All too often clubs, bars and private residences are allowed to play very loud music long after the time that this is permitted. Several times each week during the summer months, music that can be heard literally across most of the city only starts at 1 am. What is the point of having laws regarding this kind of thing if those same laws are not enforced. Obviously I do not want to prevent people from having fun, but at the same time, surely residents should be entitled to some degree of peace and quiet. It seems an absurd situation that only now are minors to be excluded from bars after 10pm (surely that should have happened years ago?) and yet those who wish to blatantly flout the noise level laws are allowed to with impunity. What I am even more surprised by is that fact that nobody has raised this issue before now. It does make me wonder if, maybe, the reason this is allowed to continue might have more to do with who owns these bars and clubs than with the rule of law? Just a thought....
