(michael danias, 20 May 2017 09:13), I can see you have a strong option on the Macedonian question, however if we follow your position to its ultimate conclusion, what has Greece really achieved? If the Slavic speakers in Macedonia assimilate and become Bulgarian (as you seem to hope for), wouldn’t you then have a bigger issue of Bulgarian expansionist agenda to deal with in the future? I mean it was Bulgaria that started the second Balkan war, and fought in WW1 & WW2 against Serbia and Greece to gain all of Macedonia (i.e. their dream of Greater Bulgaria as outlined in the treaty of San Stefano).
And after the portioning of the republic of Macedonia (as you obviously are hoping for), what is stopping Albania, Bulgaria and Turkey making a deal in the future to partition northern Greece? With the Albanian populated Southern Epirus going to Albania, West/Central/East Macedonia Slavic populated area and Salonika going to Bulgaria and Turkish populated Thrace and northern Greek islands going to Turkey?
I think if you ponder the reality, the best thing for Greek security is a small stable independent Macedonia which can resist Albanian & Bulgarian expansionist agenda. And the key to an independent Macedonia is the Macedonian identity.
