There are many poor people in the EU, many lost jobs because of the sanctions. The politicians are stoic about other people's pain.

You forgot to say that in EU the Hungarians are as pro-Russian as the Greek ...

EU Citizen : Russia is an economic midget, it has the same size economy as Spain. Merkel knows this very well.

It depends on how to count and what to count ... Otherwise she wouldn't come here after two years of fruitless attempts to move us an inch ... This visit is a full surrender of the kanzlerine as Ukraine is on it's way home and none of her other goal were reached. She even had to surrender and bow forward EU to open doors for our NS-2 ... You know I am always admired when some micro-peoples worry about the giants ...

You only forgot to add that like Germany and France Russia is a guaratee but not a participant to the Minsk process. Besides EU facing new challenges cannot cover the Nazi regime any longer while Russia takes it time waiting for the regime disintegrite under internal problems.

The issue with EU is you have 28 different ways of thinking, not necessarily pulling in the same direction. The babysitter of the group is Germany and if something happens to them, you'll have another Jugoslavija-style breakup. Everyone else is kept in check and thinks they have a say in policy...

But you just said at the beginning of your comment that in the EU there are "28 different ways of thinking, not necessarily pulling in the same direction." So, if no one other than Germany has a say in policy, then who is pulling in different directions?!

Come on, dear, be a bit more coherent in your comments. Don't write something in one sentence and then provide the argument for rejecting it in the next! lol

Merkel is giving the Kiev regime control over sanctions against Russia. If the Kiev regime reject the Minsk Accords, and they do, then sanction remain.

Michael Thomas,
You just made my day. Thank you!

Furthermore, Russia is an economic midget, it has the same size economy as Spain. Merkel knows this very well.

It was Russia, not the Americans or EU, which arranged the Minsk Accords. These Accords demand that the Kiev regime and Donbas rebels withdraw their forces and respect a ceasefire. The Accords demand nothing from the Russians, nothing. The Russians wrote these Accords, why would they include any demands on themselves? Merkel is giving the Kiev regime control over sanctions against Russia. If the Kiev regime reject the Minsk Accords, and they do, then sanction remain.

Speaking during a joint news conference with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Sochi, Russia, Merkel said that this can happen only when the Minsk peace agreement has been fully implemented.

@ Nikolle - I don't think the EU is dismissed as powerless and I think they're on par with someone like a Russia or US..economywise. The issue with EU is you have 28 different ways of thinking, not necessarily pulling in the same direction. The babysitter of the group is Germany and if something happens to them, you'll have another Jugoslavija-style breakup. Everyone else is kept in check and thinks they have a say in policy...When do you think Romania, or Croatia, or Bulgaria are going to even remotely have a say in policy;)? For now, everyone is somewhat on same page, but eventually.....

However much posters here like to dismiss the EU or Germany as nothing in the face of Russia, truth is the EU is a very powerful entity, for all the supposed power that Putin has, they've not flinched on sanctions
