Central Serbia: Man dies in hornet attack

"However, the trunk's cavity was a hornet's nest, and the insects flew out. The other men started running but he got stung in the head at least five times. The poor man immediately turned blue, reached for his throat and died of suffocation two minutes later," the Health Center's chief, Dragica Topalovic, said.

The Beta agency quoted head of the village administration Ivan Ostojic as saying that the man, named in the report as Djoko Radovanovic, was stung "only by one hornet" and "managed to say it was in the neck area before collapsing to the ground."

Radovanovic's family "immediately called an ambulance, but the doctor could only pronounce him dead," according to this.

The agency added that a "huge number" of hornets have been observed this summer in the Rudnik-Takovo area, and that villagers are reporting massive damage to their beehives.
