Montenegrin embassy marks holiday with reception

"Serbia and Montenegro have mutual respect and honor the traditional friendly relations of their peoples," Micunovic said at the gathering organized at the Hyatt Hotel.

He "underlined that today there are no open issues between Serbia and Montenegro and expressed satisfaction that such good relations will be left as legacy for the future generations," Tanjug reported.

"Through such a good cooperation, the two countries are investing in the common future of the entire region and showing a mutual interest in international support along the EU accession pathway," he said.

Micunovic said that Montenegro is marking "one of the greatest events in its history - the day (July 13, 1941) of uprising of the Montenegrin people against the fascist occupiers and historic aspiration for statehood and freedom."

“We are celebrating this great holiday in freedom-loving Belgrade, in friendly Serbia, that knows very well what it is to fight for freedom and statehood. For that reason, we are able to understand each other more easily and to feel mutual respect,” the Montenegrin ambassador underlined.

The reception was attended by Serbian Parliament Speaker Maja Gojkovic, Serbian Patriarch Irinej, ministers Nebojsa Stefanovic, Nikola Selakovic, Aleksandar Antic, and Ivan Tasovac, representatives of the diplomatic corps and cultural and public life figures.

Montenegro chose July 13 as its Statehood Day to mark the Berlin Congress recognition as an independent state, and the start of the uprising during the WW2-era.
