Members of a swine flu working group have voiced different views on whether some citizens should receive the anti-virus vaccine twice. Epidemiologists Vladimir Petrovic and Goranka Loncarevic reccomend that persons over 60 years of age and children youger than nine should receive a double dose of the vaccine, Belgrade daily Danas writes. Some experts want people vaccinated twice Minister of Health Tomica Milodavljevic, meanwhile, claims that single dose is enough. Petrovic says that only one dose of the vaccine is usually given, but that it has been recommended that people over 60, children under nine and persons with compromised immune system should be given an additional dose. Epidemiologist Goranka Loncarevic also says that an extra dose for these groups is recommended. On the other hand, the minister argues that the World Health Organization (WHO) recommends only a single dose of the swine flu vaccine. “There was a recommendation in the beginning to administer two doses, but for the past two months we have had a clear position that a single dose is sufficient,” Milosavljevic told a press conference. The minister said that he was "satisfied with the citizens’ response to vaccination". As of Wednesday, official numbers show that some 80,000 Serbian chose to be inoculated against the virus. (Beta)
