State and local authority workers will launch a four-hour warning strike today. Union officials will try and reach an agreement with the government to end the protest, according to Union President Njegos Potezica. State and local authority workers strike “I will contact the ministries and deputy prime minister in an effort to sign a protocol, because a correction is needed to the coefficient in order to satisfy employees and end the strike,” Potezica said. “The union is demanding a 50 percent increase in the coefficient, which percentage-wise is a much smaller increase in terms of actual wages,” he said, adding that more than half of local authorities in Serbia were already on this coefficient level. “This way we’d legalize the level of income for those already earning that amount and allow others to reach it also,” Potezica said. Citizens will not be able to file or receive any personal information during the four hour strike since all municipal windows will be shut down for the duration. The union wants a special collective agreement to be signed, and a 50 percent coefficient correction bringing them on equal terms with public service employees. They also want a change to the Law on Public Sector Salaries, and the payment of incentive bonuses of RSD 5000 (EUR 62).
