MPs in favor of Serbs participating in elections

Speaking to reporters in parliament on Monday, they agreed that the government should come up with a united position on this issue as soon as possible.

President of the Parliamentary Committee on Kosovo and Metohija Milovan Drecun (SNS) said that Serb participation in elections would "strengthen their position and influence of Serbia in the province," and it would be "good if they participated in a list that is as united as possible."

He added, however, that there should be "no illusion that Serbs will run on a single list."

SDPS group chief Milorad Mijatović also believes that participation in elections on a single list is necessary "because it is important that Serbs have as many deputies as possible in the Kosovo assembly."

This, he added, will mean "greater opportunity for consistent implementation of the Brussels agreement, which is important for European integrations."

"Our desire is to have 35 deputies in the Kosovo assembly," said Mijatović.

According to New Serbia Vice President and MP Dubravka Filipovski, the Serbian government should as soon as possible come out with a clear position regarding the issue, "and this position should be positive."

"If Serbs go to the polls, it should be on a single list, because Serbs can influence the decision-making, as shown by the last session of the previous convocation," said Filipovski.

President of the New Party and MP Zoran Živković also believes that Serbs should go to the polls in the southern province, but that "a way should also be found that will provide the greatest chance for deputies from Serb lists to win as many seats in the Kosovo parliament as possible."
