BELGRADE Ivica Dacic says the Brussels dialogue and the fight against crime and corruption have been "two big pluses for which Serbia received a date for EU talks." The prime minister, who is also interior minister, was spending the Julian calendar, or Orthodox, New Year with members of the Criminal Investigations Police (UKP) last night. PM spends Orthodox New Year with police officers He congratulated the start of 2014 to them and the citizens, saying that the positive results in these two fields will be important for Serbia in the future as well. According to him, this will be the case as Serbia's EU integration continues, especially in the opening of chapters 23 and 24, and chapter 35 that concerns the continuation of the dialogue and normalization of relations with Pristina. He pointed out that "this tells us that the coming years, too, will be crucial for the continuation of Serbia's path towards the EU." He congratulated the members of the UKP, headed by Rodoljub Milovic and Police Director Milorad Veljovic on the highly successful results, stressing that these results were achieved thanks to cooperation with other competent authorities. (MUP) He singled out the cooperation with the Ministry of Justice and the Prosecutor's Office, security services, the Council for National Security chaired by President Tomislav Nikolicc and the Bureau for Coordination of Security Services headed by First Deputy Prime Minister Aleksandar Vucic. Asked if the idea to introduce a single emergency response telephone number was abandoned, Dacic said that it was not and that "all the logistics are ready," but that ways are sought to secure several tens of millions of euros necessary to fund the project. Dacic recalled that this was one of EU's directives and a requirement for further integration of Serbia and that he hoped that the system will come online as early as next year. (MUP) Tanjug
