Court upholds ruling in pedophilia case

The Supreme Court today ruled that a breach of procedure had taken place in the sexual assault trial of Bishop Pahomije. The Supreme Court partially adopted a complaint lodged by the public prosecutor’s office and upheld the Nis Municipal Court’s decision to acquit the bishop, determining that there had been a breach in procedure that had worked in Pahomije's favor. The case against Pahomije, named Tomislav Gacic, began in 2004 in Vranje and was then transferred to the Nis Municipal Court following a Supreme Court ruling. Four boys testified in the case, claiming that Pahomije had sexually assaulted them. Pahomije, however, was acquitted of the charges in 2006.

The case against Pahomije, named Tomislav Gačić, began in 2004 in Vranje and was then transferred to the Niš Municipal Court following a Supreme Court ruling.
