BOR - Ministers Zorana Mihajlovic and Milan Bacevic said on Monday that the RTB Bor is the engine driving the development of the Serbian economy. The Bor mine celebrated the miners' holiday, the company's 110th anniversary and 160 years since the start of mining in Serbia in Brestovacka Banja near Bor, eastern Serbia. Bor - Mine engine of Serbia's economic development At the ceremony, Mihajlovic said a new copper smelting facility and a sulfuric acid plant at RTB Bor will be finished next year, adding she will oversee the construction herself. This will help reduce pollution in the area, she noted. She said that RTB Bor has shown in the past few years that it can be a successful and efficient company. The minister visited miners working in the "Jama" underground exploitation mine. Bacevic wished a happy Miners' Day to all miners and stressed that Bor was the main pillar of the future development of Serbia's economy. Bor has developed into a beautiful town, a museum of mining, he said. The transformation of RTB Bor in the past 3-4 years has been a success, Infante stated, adding that the company was doing well and brought about a mining renaissance in Serbia. Mihajlovic and Bacevic presented the best engineers with an award bearing the name of the Bor mine's first director, Franjo Siftek. The Chamber of Commerce awarded RTB Bor General Director Blagoje Spaskovski for his results and improvements to the economy. RTB Bor has produced 5 million tons of copper, 160 tons of gold and around 1,000 tons of silver in the past 110 years, Spaskovski said in his acceptance speech. RTB Bor has done a lot in the past four years to get new equipment and hire another 1,063 people, he noted, adding that the average pay in the company was RSD 71,000 (EUR 1 = RSD 113.6).
