“Israel has the right to exist, and attacks on it must stop,” stated Chief of the Ugandan Defense Forces, General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, in a series of posts on X.Through multiple posts, he expressed support for Israel amid the ongoing war with Iran.“We want the war in the Middle East to end immediately. The world is tired of it,” he wrote, adding that any talk of destroying or defeating Israel would draw Uganda into the war. “On Israel’s side,” he concluded. In another post, later deleted, he claimed that the Uganda People’s Defence Force (UPDF) would join the war “on Israel’s side” if the conflict is not resolved soon.Later, Kainerugaba stated in another post that he had offered the assistance of Ugandan defense forces to the United States and Israel.“We could have taken Tehran in 72 hours without any bombing,” he claimed, adding: “but of course, they never listen to a black man. Why bomb people who support you?”Closer ties between Uganda and IsraelLast month, Kainerugaba announced in a post on X that Uganda would soon build a monument to the brother of Benjamin Netanyahu, Lieutenant Colonel Jonathan “Joni” Netanyahu, at Entebbe International Airport. He said the statue would be placed exactly where Netanyahu was killed following the 1976 Air France plane hijacking, during which around 100 Jews were abducted.Kainerugaba stated that the monument would symbolize the relationship between the two countries, although there was no official government announcement regarding its construction.Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu attended a commemoration at Entebbe Airport in 2016, marking the fortieth anniversary of Operation “Jonathan.”“Forty years ago, they landed in the middle of the night in a country ruled by a brutal dictator who harbored terrorists. Today, we land in broad daylight in a friendly country led by a president who fights terrorism,” Netanyahu said at the time.
