KFOR Commander Özkan Ulutaş, in an interview with Pristina’s RTV21, addressed reports in some media about a possible reduction of U.S. troops in KFOR. He stated that the United States continues to play a fundamental role in supporting sustainable security across Kosovo and regional stability, including the KFOR mission.“The United States has nearly 600 soldiers deployed in KFOR. They lead the Eastern Regional Command of our mission. The Eastern Regional Command contributes to KFOR’s daily operations in many ways, including patrols, training and exercises, engagement with local community representatives, and support for reconstruction and economic development projects,” Ulutaş said. He added that KFOR’s composition and positioning are periodically reviewed and adjusted according to evolving circumstances to ensure the mission remains effective, but no significant changes are currently being considered.Özkan Ulutaş emphasized that KFOR continues to carry out its mandate under UN Security Council Resolution 1244 to help maintain a safe and secure environment for all people living in Kosovo, as well as freedom of movement.A few days ago, Politico reported, citing diplomatic sources in Brussels, that the administration of U.S. President Donald Trump has been actively lobbying in recent months to reduce the number of NATO troops in Kosovo.
