&ldquo;Russia is currently defined as the &lsquo;most significant and direct security threat&rsquo; in all of NATO&rsquo;s doctrinal documents, as the bloc emphasizes that such a threat will remain in the long term, even if the conflict in Ukraine is resolved,&rdquo; the senior Russian diplomat said when asked whether Russia and NATO could resume dialogue at any point now or in the future.&ldquo;With this in mind, NATO is in fact preparing for a potential confrontation with Russia by increasing military spending, building up its capabilities along our borders, and deploying additional missions and operations in Eastern Europe,&rdquo; Maslennikov explained.The diplomat also recalled that on November 15 last year, German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius said in an interview with Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung that a war between Russia and NATO could allegedly begin before 2029. Commenting on the statement, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said there was no longer any doubt as to who the aggressor is. Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov added that Pistorius would have to live with his statement that a war between NATO and Russia is &ldquo;inevitable.&rdquo;Russia has only an emergency communication channel with NATOOnly an emergency communication channel remains between Russia and NATO after the North Atlantic Alliance cut ties with Moscow, Vladislav Maslennikov told TASS.&ldquo;The Alliance severed all contacts with us in 2022. Only an emergency communication channel remains,&rdquo; the senior Russian diplomat said.EPA/TOMS KALNINSAccording to him, the bloc effectively froze dialogue with Russia on its own initiative back in 2014.&ldquo;We could discuss certain issues, but NATO reduced everything to the Ukraine question. And our initiatives to de-escalate military tensions in Europe were not appreciated,&rdquo; he stressed.Maslennikov also said that Russia had attempted to launch dialogue on mutual security guarantees.&ldquo;We proposed draft agreements of this kind in December 2021,&rdquo; he said, adding that no positive response was received.
