It was the Group C derby, with Serbia entering as the underdog after a disappointing start against the Netherlands, winning 18-16 on penalties. However, this time Uroš Stevanović’s team showed a different side and demonstrated top-class water polo against the current world and European champions. The match was marked by a red card received by Dušan Mandić at the start of the final quarter, after which the “Dolphins” played four minutes with one player less.Despite that, they managed to hold on and secure a major triumph with a goal from Viktor Rašović seven seconds before the end.The most efficient scorer for Serbia was Strahinja Rašović with four goals. Vasilije Martinović scored three, while Miloš Ćuk added two goals. For Spain, Alberto Munarriz stood out with four goals, and Unai Biel scored two.
