Vučić at the conference on child safety: "I've called for the law to be tightened; we'll protect every child"

At the beginning of his address, Vučić reminded the audience that the state has so far used the &ldquo;Find Me&rdquo; system, fortunately with success twice. He noted that implementing this system was difficult due to significant resistance.&ldquo;We must also identify the positive aspects of the internet, because this space has become life itself for a huge number of children and people, and this part is not legally regulated or sanctioned,&rdquo; Vučić emphasized.According to him, the EU is preparing &mdash; as highlighted by French President Emmanuel Macron &mdash; legal regulations to address the abuse of children and adults on the internet.Vučić stated that Serbia is already amending its criminal code to protect every child, every woman, and indeed every person.&ldquo;This is neither simple nor easy. We expect the EU to establish and regulate this framework, so that we can review it and try to create something that will protect our children and our elderly from all kinds of abuse,&rdquo; the Serbian president said.Vučić highlighted that people are increasingly losing jobs on social media, leaving employers frustrated.&ldquo;The rate of digital laziness is much higher in Serbia than in the U.S. This will create other problems. When we talk about children, there are no longer lines on basketball courts; we have more playgrounds than children on them. Children live their virtual lives. I am not a perfect father &mdash; two of my children are grown, and my third is an eight-year-old boy. I am not a perfect father because I do not spend enough time, and I cannot lecture anyone who worries about their children every day. My role is to kiss him every night and morning; for everything else, I am neither entitled to praise nor boast. But what I see is that all our children have their virtual worlds, their sports passions, and desires, which they openly show through social media,&rdquo; he stressed. He added that if the government does not heed his requests, he will find another way and return the law to the parliament because he wants to do everything possible to protect Serbian women.&ldquo;We notice many more cases of violence on the internet, even though the number of convictions is falling. What is particularly problematic for children is online violence. This has led to several tragedies involving our children in our country. It is becoming the biggest concern for our children, and we will have to see what regulations we can introduce. Everyone is allowed to say whatever they want on social media, no one bears responsibility, but there must be responsibility toward children. I am glad that, as a state, we were able to assist the Igor center in Novi Sad. But I am not glad to see that we have many unresolved problems,&rdquo; Vučić said.He noted that he refrained from speaking publicly while the debate on the new criminal code was ongoing, but he wanted to add one point.&ldquo;I called for tougher penalties for the crime of rape. Then a public debate began, and I will ask Minister Vujić to review the criticisms of everyone once more. I will not allow any possibility for those who commit such crimes to find any justification for different interpretations of one of the most serious criminal offenses. If the government does not heed my request, I will ensure in another way that they hear me, by returning the law to the parliament, because I want to protect our women and our children,&rdquo; the Serbian president said.This year, the conference theme is &ldquo;The Child in the Age of Algorithms,&rdquo; and the organizer, the Center for Missing and Abused Children, expects more than 300 participants.The conference features top speakers from the FBI, EUROPOL, Microsoft, and other experts from the region and Serbia, who will present the latest challenges and solutions in digital security, child protection, and the use of artificial intelligence.
