In a statement to reporters after getting off the plane from Florida after landing in Maryland, Trump said he would increase tariffs on Canada if that country objected to American tariffs, and accused the northern neighbor "of abusing the United States for years," reports the BBC."I love the Canadian people. I don't agree with the leadership of Canada. Something is going to happen there. If they want to play the game, I don't mind. We can play the game as long as they want," Trump said.Later he also announced on his network Truth Social."Anyone who opposes tariffs, including the bogus 'Wall Street Journal' and hedge funds, opposes them only because these people or entities are controlled by China, or other foreign or domestic companies. Anyone who loves and believes in the US supports tariffs. Tariffs should never have been abolished, instead they should have remained, because they are a much more efficient way of financing the state than the income tax that was introduced in 1913. The response to tariffs was fantastic," Trump said.He previously signed an executive order imposing 25 percent tariffs on goods imported from Canada and Mexico. Both countries responded by announcing the introduction of reciprocal measures.
