Plane crashes in India: Minister and four others killed PHOTO/VIDEO
Deputy Chief Minister of the Indian state of Maharashtra, Ajit Pawar, was killed in a plane crash along with four other people, the national aviation regulator announced.
The aircraft, which took off from Mumbai, crashed at Baramati airport, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation said.
Among the dead are two members of Pawar’s staff and two crew members.
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his condolences to the family on X.
Pawar, the nephew of veteran politician Sharad Pawar, was an influential leader in Maharashtra and had served multiple times as Deputy Chief Minister.
His party, the Nationalist Congress Party, was part of the ruling coalition in Maharashtra alongside the Indian Bharatiya Janata Party.
