This European country buried in snow: Roads blocked; Yellow weather alert in effect PHOTO/VIDEO
French meteorologists have issued a yellow weather alert today due to heavy snowfall and icy conditions in 82 departments, local media report.
Traffic is moving with difficulty today after heavy snowfall last night in the mountainous Central Massif, Normandy, and near the Pyrenees, BFM TV reported.
Drivers have been warned to exercise extreme caution in the Haute-Loire department, the Road Administration in the Central Massif region in the south and central part of the country stated.
The N88 national highway, which connects Lyon and Toulouse, is blocked near the town of Saint-Austey, causing numerous traffic jams.
In the Haute-Loire department, driving conditions are very difficult in the towns of Puy-en-Velay and Le Pertuis.
According to reports, traffic is also difficult on the N122 near Aurillac, the A89, the A6, and several other highways.
Regarding Normandy, meteorologists say that the most snow has fallen in the town of Saint-Jean-de-Beauregard, with a snow cover of 5 centimeters.
As meteorological services have warned, snow is expected today in lower areas as well, particularly in central and eastern France.
