Chaos in Slovakia: Trains collide – at least 100 injured; Rescue helicopter deployed PHOTO
At least 100 people were injured in a collision between two trains in Slovakia, and according to preliminary reports, no fatalities have been reported, Slovak portal TA3 reported.
According to reports, the accident occurred today around 10 a.m. near the village of Jablonov na Turnji, when two express trains collided at a railway junction.
A spokesperson for the Slovak railway company, Jan Baček, stated that the cause of the collision is still under investigation.
“Currently, the priority is the rescue and evacuation of passengers and our employees,” he said.
Five ambulances and a rescue helicopter have been dispatched to the crash site.
The police stated that the collision occurred in front of a tunnel and that passengers are gradually evacuating the trains.
According to reports, the police are securing the accident site, coordinating the work of rescue services, and directing the movement of people in the area.
