The area is located at an altitude of more than 4,900 meters, according to Chinese state media.
Local outlet Jimu News reported that some of the tourists stranded on the mountain have already been evacuated.
The snowstorm on the Tibetan side of Mount Everest began on Friday evening and lasted throughout Saturday. Due to the severe weather conditions, officials from Tingri County announced that ticket sales and entry to the Everest Scenic Zone have been suspended, according to official WeChat accounts of the local tourism company.
On the other side of the Himalayas, in Nepal, heavy rainfall has caused catastrophic landslides and flash floods.
According to police reports, at least 47 people have lost their lives since Friday.
The worst-hit area is the eastern Ilam district, which borders India, where 35 people were killed in separate landslides.
Nine people are still missing after being swept away by floods, while three others were killed by lightning strikes in different parts of the country.
