Schools begin receiving free textbooks provided by the Ministry of Education
Schools have begun receiving the free textbooks provided by the Ministry of Education for around 96,000 primary school students for the 2026/2027 school year.
Schools will distribute the textbooks to students starting September 1, the Ministry of Education announced.
The Ministry has provided 919,156 textbook units for eligible categories of students, with 1,020,954,000 dinars allocated for the program.
Students eligible for free textbooks include:
- students from socially or financially disadvantaged families who receive financial social assistance;
- students attending primary school under an Individual Education Plan (IEP), including IEP3;
- students from families with three or more children in the education system, with the benefit applying to the child or children attending primary school;
- students with developmental disabilities and disabilities who are educated under an IEP and require adapted textbooks, as well as students not enrolled under an IEP who require adaptations such as large print, Braille or electronic formats.
The right to free textbooks applies to eligible students receiving instruction in Serbian or in one of the eight languages of national minorities.
