Hungary declares a state of emergency
Hungarian Minister responsible for environmental protection László Gajdos said today that the government has declared a state of emergency due to a severe water shortage caused by drought.
Gajdos said in a Facebook post that the drought index in 66 out of Hungary's 84 water management districts had exceeded the thresholds set by regulations, prompting the introduction of emergency measures, MTI reported.
According to him, experts from the Water Management Directorate will implement special measures to protect and manage water resources in 74% of the country in order to mitigate the effects of the drought.
