Air traffic disrupted in Tivat; Air Serbia reroutes flights

Air traffic in Tivat was temporarily suspended due to an unusually high concentration of birds on the runway, and further disruptions to the flight schedule cannot be ruled out during the day.

"Due to an unusually high concentration of birds in the runway area, all flights scheduled to land at Tivat Airport before 11:00 a.m. were diverted to alternate airports, while departing flights waited for clearance to take off. After 11:00 a.m., the situation stabilized, allowing one aircraft to land successfully and two others to depart. However, further disruptions to today's flight schedule remain likely," the statement said.

The airport added that Tivat Airport is continuously implementing all prescribed measures and using all available means to disperse birds from the airfield.

"On this matter, the Local Safety Committee is meeting and, based on an assessment of the current situation, will make decisions regarding the continuation of air traffic operations. The safety of passengers, crews, and aircraft remains the priority," the statement said.

Air Serbia issues statement

Air Serbia also addressed the situation, saying that due to the inability to operate air traffic under fully safe conditions because of an uncontrolled influx of flocks of birds in the Tivat Airport area, the airline was forced today to divert its flights to alternative airports in the region.

In recent days, other airlines operating from Tivat Airport have faced the same challenge, which is why safety assessments and responsible operational decision-making are crucial for protecting passengers and crews.

The relevant services of Serbia's national airline are taking all possible measures to maintain regular operations in line with the planned flight schedule, the statement said.

 

Air Serbia thanked passengers for their understanding and patience in circumstances beyond the airline's control and said it continues to take all necessary measures to ensure safe travel.
