Trial in Banjska case concluded: Spasojević and Tolić sentenced to life imprisonment, Maksimović to 30 years
The Basic Court of the provisional institutions in Pristina has, in a first-instance ruling, sentenced Blagoje Spasojević and Vladimir Tolić to life imprisonment, and Dušan Maksimović to 30 years in prison, for an alleged attack on the constitutional order.
The case concerns the events in Banjska in September 2023.
The defense has the right to appeal the verdict to the Court of Appeals in Pristina. Spasojević and Tolić did not attend the sentencing, while Maksimović was present.
In Banjska near Zvečan, in northern Kosovo and Metohija, on the night between September 23 and 24, 2023, a clash occurred between a group of local Serbs and the so-called Kosovo police, in which three Serbs and one member of the Kosovo police, an Albanian, were killed.
Following the events in Banjska, the Pristina authorities arrested Maksimović, Spasojević, and Tolić, and they have been in detention since then.
The so-called Special Prosecution Office in Pristina filed an indictment in September 2024 against 45 individuals suspected of involvement in the Banjska events and requested that the remaining defendants be tried in absentia, but that proposal was rejected by the Basic Court of the provisional institutions.
