Igor Jurić: A mistake was made somewhere

Almost a year has passed since the case that shook Serbia and the region. The public still doesn't know the truth about the disappearance of Danka Ilić, and illogicalities and theories continue to pile up one after the other.

As Blic reminds, the girl's parents recently answered questions on Tik-Tok about 13 conspiracy theories that have been circulating since the moment when Danka disappeared, and which are talked about non-stop since the girl's body was never found.

Igor Jurić, the president of the Center for Missing and Abused Children points out that he believes that Danka Ilić's parents came forward independently, without an agreement with the police or institutions, and emphasized that he thinks it would have been better if they had talked to journalists.

"I don't believe there was any agreement with the police or institutions. I follow some profiles that are involved in the whole case. I think it would be much more expedient for them to come out and talk to a competent journalist, who would ask the right questions. I am surprised by that way of communicating with the public," says Igor Jurić.

Jurić also looked back on the moment when little Danka disappeared and described what he found on the spot when he went to Banjsko Polje.

"It's a place that's really neglected. And it's really not the conditions for a mother to take the children to play. I was there when everything was already cleared and I can't speak about whether the family went to that place, but for such a young age of the child, it's not logical to leave him in such conditions to play. Where the mother was at that moment or not, that's also a question. I also looked at the cameras and you can't see exactly what's going on there. What is worrying is that someone brought their child there and left it to play. I wouldn't leave my child there," says Jurić.

A mistake was made somewhere, uncertainty is the worst

Uncertainty hits the family hardest and it would be very bad if the truth is not known, says Igor Jurić.

"The worst thing will be that the truth will not be known. The uncertainty for the entire public is also bad, as well as the loss of trust in the institutions. There was definitely a mistake made in some procedures. It started well, we were all activated, both the mountain rescue services and the media, and this is a lesson that we don't approach every case in the same way and that we have to improve," says Jurić.

He also points out that he was hoping that someone would come forward and ask for a ransom for little Danka.

"We hoped the most that someone would ask for a ransom. Well, whatever someone asks for, you will find the money. There is a secret hidden in that narrow circle of people. I think there is another person there, and I cannot come to terms with the fact that people of this capacity who are accused of a disappearance could have committed such a perfect crime. I think that, as in some cases of disappearances of children and young people, the people who were in close contact with the family were not investigated well enough and that there is a secret hidden there," says Jurić in "Jutro" on Blic.

He points out that the death of one of the suspects is just an additional complication for the prosecution.
