Airport arrest: Suspects accused of attempting to bribe police officers twice

Members of the Criminal Police Directorate and the Anti-Corruption Service, in cooperation with officers from the Border Police Directorate, arrested Chinese nationals C.K. (50) and Z.L. (49) on suspicion that they jointly committed the criminal offense of money laundering.

C.K. is also suspected of committing the criminal offense of bribery.

They were arrested on the orders of the Higher Public Prosecutor’s Office in Belgrade, Special Department for Combating Corruption, as part of ongoing efforts to combat corruption and financial crime, the Ministry of Interior (MIA) said.

According to the suspicions, C.K. initially offered money to officers of the Border Police Directorate in order to prevent them from carrying out identity checks and searches of him and Z.L. at Nikola Tesla Airport in Belgrade.

He is then suspected of offering money to members of the Criminal Police Directorate and the Anti-Corruption Service in an attempt to prevent the arrest of him and Z.L. on suspicion of committing the criminal offense of money laundering.

A total of €32,330 was found on the suspects, which is suspected to have been obtained through criminal activity.

They have been detained for up to 48 hours and will subsequently be taken before the competent public prosecutor’s office with a criminal complaint filed against them.
