Detention was proposed to prevent him from repeating the crime and due to the risk of escape, the prosecutor's office announced.

He is suspected of committing serious crimes against public traffic safety and the criminal offense of unauthorized use of another person's vehicle.

The suspect is charged with committing the crimes by driving an Opel Corsa without a driver's license and at the intersection of Takovska Street and George Washington Street, first hitting a stopped vehicle, then running a red light to hit another vehicle, which rotated from the force of the impact, causing passengers to fall out and plastic to come off, hitting the body of a pedestrian on the sidewalk, while the vehicle driven by the suspect was stopped by hitting a vehicle from the opposite direction.

The minor injured party - a passenger in the vehicle - has suffered serious, life-threatening injuries at this time, while the other persons injured in this traffic accident have sustained minor injuries.

The suspect was questioned about the circumstances of the commission of the criminal offenses he was charged with and admitted that he committed the criminal offense of unauthorized use of another person's vehicle, while in relation to the criminal offense of serious offense against public traffic safety, he stated that he did not remember it.

The public prosecutor on duty submitted a proposal to the judge for preliminary proceedings of the First Basic Court in Belgrade for detention for legal reasons prescribed in Art. 211, paragraph 1, items 1 and 3 of the Criminal Procedure Code, given that there are special circumstances indicating that the suspect would repeat the criminal offense he was charged with if released, as well as that he would flee.

During the evidentiary proceedings, the Prosecutor's Office will question the injured party's witnesses, as well as other witnesses to this event, issue an order for a psychiatric examination of the suspect, as well as a forensic medical examination of the circumstances surrounding the degree, type and manner of occurrence of the injured party's injuries, then a traffic and technical examination, and after presenting all evidence and establishing the accurate and complete factual situation, issue a decision on further action.
