The EU is determined: "We will not give in to the threats of the USA"
France and its partners, such as the European Union, will not give in to American threats to introduce tariffs, said French Trade Minister Laurent Saint-Martin today.
Donald Trump is triggering the escalation of the trade war that he started, and France is determined to react together with the European Commission and partners, the minister added in a post on the X social network (Twitter).
He pointed out that France will protect its industry, reports Reuters.
US President Donald Trump threatened earlier today that he will introduce tariffs of 200 percent on wine, champagne and other alcoholic beverages from the European Union.
In a post on social networks, Trump warned that he would impose tariffs on European alcohol if the European Union does not abolish the tax on American whiskey, according to Bloomberg.
Brussels authorities have taxed American whiskey to retaliate against Trump's steel and aluminum tariffs that took effect on Wednesday.
"If this tariff is not removed immediately, the US will soon impose a 200 percent tariff on all wine, champagne and spirits coming from France and other countries of the European Union," Trump wrote about the European tariffs on whiskey.
