Nothing more was said as he cruised round, but just before the end of the lap he was told to stop in a safe place – obliging him to make his way to the podium by foot.
His was not the only car to be parked at trackside. Williams drivers George Russell and Nicholas Latifi also received urgent calls to stop, and both did so just after crossing the line.
Then winner Ocon missed the pit entry at the end of his celebratory lap and went sailing past the pits a second time. He soon stopped, and returned to the podium on foot.
As ever, Bauer was taking note. The cars of Vettel, Russell and Latifi were all immediately earmarked for fuel sample checks on the basis that because they stopped on track, they might be marginal on that crucial litre.
Bauer was not concerned about Ocon – the Frenchman had completed his in-lap and by mistake a little more too, and hadn't been given the telltale urgent call from the team to stop first time round.
The sampling procedure involves the fuel being pumped out, with the help of the team, in the FIA scrutineering garage. The cars of Russell and Latifi provided the all-important litre, but Vettel's did not – only 30% of the required amount could be retrieved, despite the best efforts of the mechanics.

That raised the suspicions of the FIA. At the time the relevant regulation read: "Except in cases of force majeure (accepted as such by the stewards of the meeting), if a sample of fuel is required after a practice session the car concerned must have first been driven back to the pits under its own power."
The stewards subsequently accepted that there was a reason for stopping. However, when the car was checked by FIA technical delegate Jo Bauer, the crucial litre could not be retrieved.
The team was convinced that it was in there somewhere, and tried everything to squeeze it out, without success. Thus Vettel was disqualified from qualifying, and sent to the back of the grid. He started from the pitlane after changes were made under parc ferme to help him overtake.
Subsequently, the wording of that rule changed. To remove the possibility of drivers stopping on their in-lap after qualifying just to save fuel, and having the track littered with parked cars, the FIA made it clear that drivers had to get back to the pitlane.
In other words, if you stop halfway round your in-lap after qualifying, the FIA will calculate how much fuel you saved by so doing, and thus how much you would have had in the tank if you'd driven round. If the result is less than a litre, you are in trouble.

"The requirement to provide a one-litre sample of fuel for testing has been in the rules for decades. It is key to the policing of the sport and ensuring that teams are always running the exact fuel 'fingerprint' that they have registered with the FIA.
Fuel can be sampled and checked at any point over the weekend, but naturally the crucial times are when it really matters – after qualifying and the race.
The FIA needs that much fuel because initially it provides three samples, one that is tested by the FIA fuel specialist at the track, one that goes to an independent lab, and one that is retained by the team. Some is also kept should a more detailed form of testing be required later.
Not every car is checked after every race or every session, so there may well have been cases where drivers didn't have a big enough sample left, but they still retained their points.
But over the years, a few drivers have fallen foul of the rules. The most famous example was perhaps the 2012 Abu Dhabi GP, and it also concerned Vettel. Having qualified third the German was told by his Red Bull team to stop on track on his lap back to the pits."

That rule is not applied to the race itself, as the consensus is that in the hybrid era and with fuel so tight it would not have been right for a driver to lose a win through a lack of sample if he could have parked on the in-lap and kept enough in the tank.
It's not written in the rules as such, but if any car does stop on the in-lap, for whatever reason, the FIA takes note – and Bauer ensures that it is checked. And that's exactly what happened with Vettel.
Hungary is a race where fuel is often critical. Winner Esteban Ocon had to fuel save during the race, and fourth-placed Carlos Sainz talked about how much doing so had compromised him.
Chasing Ocon for the whole distance, and with Lewis Hamilton catching him, Vettel didn't have much time to cruise, and indeed on the very last lap his engineer said, "Sebastian, we will have some fuel save." So the team knew he was going to be marginal.
Independently of the need to supply the litre, running close to the edge on fuel also potentially compromises a team on the overall weight limit. Drivers are often told by their teams to run over marbles on their in-laps in order to add extra weight to via their tyres.
That's what happened with Vettel after he crossed the line, with his engineer saying: "Lots of pick-up on the way in, lots of pick-up. Super slow on the way in. Save fuel, save fuel."

Prost je završavao trke bez kapi goriva u rezervoaru, kakva su ovo idiotska pravila? Ako sipaš višak goriva sam si kriv, što nisi bolje procenio.

Aston Martin tvrdi da njihova telemetrija pokazuje da je ostalo 1.4 litara goriva, samo ne mogu da ga izvuku. No, posto planiraju zalbu, bolid Fetal-a ce biti "zapecacenj" pa ce probati da izvuku gorivo za koje kazu da je tu.
Mislim da su znali da ce biti kratak sa gorivom, da su mu rekli da pristedi, automatski bi odustali od borbe za pobedu, a na kraju bi i drugo mesto bilo ugrozeno jer je Hamilton zavrsio manje od sekunde iza Fetela.
Nisam neki fan Fetela ali bi mi bilo drago da je uzeo to drugo mesto, i bas steta da ako je tim zeznuo sa kolicinom goriva.

Исти они који су се радовали када је Кими ударио Хамилтона у првом кругу у Силверстону 2018., коментари су били ТО КИМИ, КИМИ ЦАРЕ ЛЕГЕНДО, сада се згражавају када Ботас избаци Макса, тобоже забринути за безбедност возача и регуларност и фер-плеј и бла бла бла. Hamilton ima isti tretman ovde u komentarima kao sto Novak ima u stranim medijima. Vest nema NIKAKVE veze snjim, a 70% komentara o njemu. I to ljudi nadobijali pluseve na gluposti. Cela trka je bila za pamcenje, nezaboravan restart kada stoji sam na gridu (svaki ljubitelj F1 se setio Indianapolisa iz 2005), njegova preticanja i mozda zadnja borba ikada sa Alonsom; borba mozda cak i dva najbolja vozaca ikada; i onda ljudi prvo pisu gluposi kako je Bottas namerno udario Norisa (aj da je Pereza udario, pa bi donekle imalo i smisla), pa posle da je FIA namerno diskvalifikovala Vettela. I dobijaju pluseve na ovakve negativne gluposti. Na nivou kada igraju Novak i Rafa mec od 5 sati, pa posle mediji smaraju o tome kako je Novak glasno vikao.

Nije Hamilton stao posle trke i isisao 0.7l goriva iz Vettelovog auta. Nije dosao lik iz FIA i pomislio *da, danas cu svojom illuminati tehnologijom zaustaviti vreme, i dok mehanciari Astona stoje zamrznuti u vremenu i prostoru pored Vettelovog auta, isisacu 0.7l goriva da bi Hamilton zaradio jos 2 boda u odnosu na Verstappena".

Ta pravila postoje vec godinama i svaki inzenjer ga zna. Zato i stalno smaraju vozace da cuvaju gorivo. Mehanicari Astona nisu mogli da izvade litar goriva iz auta i to je to. Lepo se videlo da je Vettel stao na pola staze posle kraja trke. Mozete raspravljati o tome da li je pravilo dobro ili ne, ali svi znaju da postoji.

F1 je davno presla u takmicenje u podvalama umesto umesto u umecu vozaca. Gledao celu trku nakon 5-6g i ponovo sebi dokazao da za Moto GP vredi izdvojiti vreme

O čemu vi ljudi pišete? Ko koga gura i šta se radi? Pravila su jasna i uvek su se postovala. To što neko celu trku ima 2 litra manje goriva kod ovakvih bolida i te kako znači i pomaže. Potpuno zaslužena diskvalifikacija ako Aston ne uspe da dokaže drugačije.

Na sve nacine Fia pokusava da navuce da Luis bude sampion, ali na sve, zamislio ovo je diskvalifikacija a kada nekog za malo ubijes na stazi samo 10 sek.ma I to je puno,ja sam ocekivao da bude 5 sek za onaj sudar iz prosle trke. Gadi mi se Mercedes I FIA a I Hamilton, kada ne mogu legalno I cisto da pobede daj sve da uradimo da izbacimo konkurenciju iz borbe za titulu...

Aauuu, pa ovo stvarno postaje komedija. Odmah dati titulu Hamiltonu jer ovo je vise prevrsilo svaku meru. A mislim i da Okonča nije imao odgovarajuću boju na kacigi.

Ne radi to tako, ne moze vozac sam da pali/gasi DRS, mehanizam radi automatski.Drugo, druga DRS zona je odmah nakon prve, tj posle krivine 1, i merenje za drugu DRS zonu je na kraju pravca.

Druga DRS zona ide bukvalno od druge krivine. Bzvz ali tako je ovde. Pravila korišćenja nađi na netu. Ne piši gluposti. Još dobiješ gomilu pluseva za izrečenu glupost.

Pa da je neke pravde, Ferstapen bi danas u namjanju ruku dobio 10 sek kazne zbog zalijetanja u Sumahera tokom preticanja. Namjerno se zaletio u njegovu stranu i doslo do kontakta. Ako ne vjerujes meni pogledaj kkip, sve se vidi. Onaj ko hoce da vidi. Nemate vi obraza

Na sve nacine Fia pokusava da navuce da Luis bude sampion, ali na sve, zamislio ovo je diskvalifikacija a kada nekog za malo ubijes na stazi samo 10 sek.ma I to je puno,ja sam ocekivao da bude 5 sek za onaj sudar iz prosle trke. Gadi mi se Mercedes I FIA a I Hamilton, kada ne mogu legalno I cisto da pobede daj sve da uradimo da izbacimo konkurenciju iz borbe za titulu...

Aauuu, pa ovo stvarno postaje komedija. Odmah dati titulu Hamiltonu jer ovo je vise prevrsilo svaku meru. A mislim i da Okonča nije imao odgovarajuću boju na kacigi.

O čemu vi ljudi pišete? Ko koga gura i šta se radi? Pravila su jasna i uvek su se postovala. To što neko celu trku ima 2 litra manje goriva kod ovakvih bolida i te kako znači i pomaže. Potpuno zaslužena diskvalifikacija ako Aston ne uspe da dokaže drugačije.

F1 je davno presla u takmicenje u podvalama umesto umesto u umecu vozaca. Gledao celu trku nakon 5-6g i ponovo sebi dokazao da za Moto GP vredi izdvojiti vreme

Druga DRS zona ide bukvalno od druge krivine. Bzvz ali tako je ovde. Pravila korišćenja nađi na netu. Ne piši gluposti. Još dobiješ gomilu pluseva za izrečenu glupost.

Hamilton ima isti tretman ovde u komentarima kao sto Novak ima u stranim medijima. Vest nema NIKAKVE veze snjim, a 70% komentara o njemu. I to ljudi nadobijali pluseve na gluposti. Cela trka je bila za pamcenje, nezaboravan restart kada stoji sam na gridu (svaki ljubitelj F1 se setio Indianapolisa iz 2005), njegova preticanja i mozda zadnja borba ikada sa Alonsom; borba mozda cak i dva najbolja vozaca ikada; i onda ljudi prvo pisu gluposi kako je Bottas namerno udario Norisa (aj da je Pereza udario, pa bi donekle imalo i smisla), pa posle da je FIA namerno diskvalifikovala Vettela. I dobijaju pluseve na ovakve negativne gluposti. Na nivou kada igraju Novak i Rafa mec od 5 sati, pa posle mediji smaraju o tome kako je Novak glasno vikao.

Nije Hamilton stao posle trke i isisao 0.7l goriva iz Vettelovog auta. Nije dosao lik iz FIA i pomislio *da, danas cu svojom illuminati tehnologijom zaustaviti vreme, i dok mehanciari Astona stoje zamrznuti u vremenu i prostoru pored Vettelovog auta, isisacu 0.7l goriva da bi Hamilton zaradio jos 2 boda u odnosu na Verstappena".

Ta pravila postoje vec godinama i svaki inzenjer ga zna. Zato i stalno smaraju vozace da cuvaju gorivo. Mehanicari Astona nisu mogli da izvade litar goriva iz auta i to je to. Lepo se videlo da je Vettel stao na pola staze posle kraja trke. Mozete raspravljati o tome da li je pravilo dobro ili ne, ali svi znaju da postoji.

Ne radi to tako, ne moze vozac sam da pali/gasi DRS, mehanizam radi automatski.Drugo, druga DRS zona je odmah nakon prve, tj posle krivine 1, i merenje za drugu DRS zonu je na kraju pravca.

Ne treba baš svaki stvar komentarisati da je zbog Hamiltona.

Sudare, kazne, slične situacije i različite kazne da...

Ali ako je pravilo da treba da ima litar goriva, onda treba da ima litar goriva. Šta sad. Neka dokažu da je zbog pumpe i svima lepo.

Aston Martin tvrdi da njihova telemetrija pokazuje da je ostalo 1.4 litara goriva, samo ne mogu da ga izvuku. No, posto planiraju zalbu, bolid Fetal-a ce biti "zapecacenj" pa ce probati da izvuku gorivo za koje kazu da je tu.
Mislim da su znali da ce biti kratak sa gorivom, da su mu rekli da pristedi, automatski bi odustali od borbe za pobedu, a na kraju bi i drugo mesto bilo ugrozeno jer je Hamilton zavrsio manje od sekunde iza Fetela.
Nisam neki fan Fetela ali bi mi bilo drago da je uzeo to drugo mesto, i bas steta da ako je tim zeznuo sa kolicinom goriva.

That raised the suspicions of the FIA. At the time the relevant regulation read: "Except in cases of force majeure (accepted as such by the stewards of the meeting), if a sample of fuel is required after a practice session the car concerned must have first been driven back to the pits under its own power."
The stewards subsequently accepted that there was a reason for stopping. However, when the car was checked by FIA technical delegate Jo Bauer, the crucial litre could not be retrieved.
The team was convinced that it was in there somewhere, and tried everything to squeeze it out, without success. Thus Vettel was disqualified from qualifying, and sent to the back of the grid. He started from the pitlane after changes were made under parc ferme to help him overtake.
Subsequently, the wording of that rule changed. To remove the possibility of drivers stopping on their in-lap after qualifying just to save fuel, and having the track littered with parked cars, the FIA made it clear that drivers had to get back to the pitlane.
In other words, if you stop halfway round your in-lap after qualifying, the FIA will calculate how much fuel you saved by so doing, and thus how much you would have had in the tank if you'd driven round. If the result is less than a litre, you are in trouble.

That rule is not applied to the race itself, as the consensus is that in the hybrid era and with fuel so tight it would not have been right for a driver to lose a win through a lack of sample if he could have parked on the in-lap and kept enough in the tank.
It's not written in the rules as such, but if any car does stop on the in-lap, for whatever reason, the FIA takes note – and Bauer ensures that it is checked. And that's exactly what happened with Vettel.
Hungary is a race where fuel is often critical. Winner Esteban Ocon had to fuel save during the race, and fourth-placed Carlos Sainz talked about how much doing so had compromised him.
Chasing Ocon for the whole distance, and with Lewis Hamilton catching him, Vettel didn't have much time to cruise, and indeed on the very last lap his engineer said, "Sebastian, we will have some fuel save." So the team knew he was going to be marginal.
Independently of the need to supply the litre, running close to the edge on fuel also potentially compromises a team on the overall weight limit. Drivers are often told by their teams to run over marbles on their in-laps in order to add extra weight to via their tyres.
That's what happened with Vettel after he crossed the line, with his engineer saying: "Lots of pick-up on the way in, lots of pick-up. Super slow on the way in. Save fuel, save fuel."

Nothing more was said as he cruised round, but just before the end of the lap he was told to stop in a safe place – obliging him to make his way to the podium by foot.
His was not the only car to be parked at trackside. Williams drivers George Russell and Nicholas Latifi also received urgent calls to stop, and both did so just after crossing the line.
Then winner Ocon missed the pit entry at the end of his celebratory lap and went sailing past the pits a second time. He soon stopped, and returned to the podium on foot.
As ever, Bauer was taking note. The cars of Vettel, Russell and Latifi were all immediately earmarked for fuel sample checks on the basis that because they stopped on track, they might be marginal on that crucial litre.
Bauer was not concerned about Ocon – the Frenchman had completed his in-lap and by mistake a little more too, and hadn't been given the telltale urgent call from the team to stop first time round.
The sampling procedure involves the fuel being pumped out, with the help of the team, in the FIA scrutineering garage. The cars of Russell and Latifi provided the all-important litre, but Vettel's did not – only 30% of the required amount could be retrieved, despite the best efforts of the mechanics.
