Vodenica Address: 5 Vojvode Bojovica Blvd., Belgrade (below the Nebojsa Tower) Phone: +381-11- 26-28-250 Working hours of the restaurant and kitchen: from noon to 1 a.m. (closed on Mondays) City transportation: tram: 2, 5, 11 Credit cards: Visa, Visa Electron, Dina, Master, Maestro, American Express Garden or terrace: yes Parking: yes Music: from Thursday to Saturday Menu: in Serbian, English and Russian Staff speak: English Vegetarian menu: yes Cuisine: fish Main courses: from 500 to 800 dinars Available for hire: yes, by agreement If you decide to enter, you will be greeted by a polite staff and interior in urgent need of renovation. Menus with layers of stickers with price corrections, placed one on top of the other with a few loose pages falling out, reveal a modest choice of fish dishes. We started with the excellent fish broth and Serbian cheese – baked white cheese with a grill-like aroma. Charmed by the closeness of the river, we decided to try the fresh water species, but after our disappointment that not everything in the menu was on offer, we warmly recommend checking with the waiter before your place your order. At the time of our visit, carp and perch were available, so we decided to have a portion of each, and we have to admit that both portions met our gourmet demands. The perch with its reddish stripes and weighing only 500 grams dominated the table, and eventually with every bite, pleasantly melted in the mouth. The grilled carp did not appeal with the quantity either, but the usual dressing of olive oil, parsley and garlic remained untouched as was the case with the first dish. A salad mix made of the ever-present combination of seasonal veggies, was skillfully refreshed with addition of fried sesame seeds. This however was not enough to cover up the bland side dishes: boiled potatoes with poorly arranged Swiss chard, pieces of lemon and a few leaves of endive. If you are able to concentrate only on the river and fish on the table, Vodenica is the right place for you. Meal for two, without wine, costs 2,700 dinars. While taking a walk along the quay, a boat-restaurant will catch your eye and invite you to enjoy its excellent location overlooking the large island at the confluence and the Nebojsa Tower.
