NOVI SAD More than 40 percent of the citizens in Vojvodina are supplied with water containing higher concentrations of arsenic than allowed. This was heard on Tuesday during a conference in Novi Sad. Arsenic levels high in drinking water in Vojvodina In the province's Banat and Backa regions, some 800,000 inhabitants are supplied with water containing more than ten milligrams of arsenic per liter. According to the Regulation on the Hygiene of Drinking Water, the ten milligrams is the upper limit, it was said during the Water Quality conference at the Faculty of Natural Sciences and Mathematics. In most cases, the concentration of arsenic in drinking water ranges from 50 to 100 milligrams per liter, but there are municipalities such as Zrenjanin, where this figure goes up to 150 and even 250 milligrams per liter. The participants pointed out that most water supply systems in Vojvodina, except in the town of Subotica, have no technology to remove arsenic from groundwater, so the element's content in drinking water goes above the safe level.
