“As much as our education was needed in developing an adequate service for help, the additions made by people who have gone through this and have felt it on their skin is just as important, because they know best what they need,” psychologist Dragana Cuk-Milankov said.
Even though the former Serbia-Montenegro signed a UN convention against trans-national crime and human trafficking, the national legislature did not recognized the convention until three years ago when changes were made to laws and article 111b, for the human trafficking, was added.
The crime has been precisely defined this year in legal amendments. According to Criminal Prosecution Laws in Serbia, a punishment of 15 years is prescribed for those found guilty of human trafficking. Accessories to the crime stand to receive prison sentences of up to three years.
