Minister booed during health workers’ protest
Serbia’s Health Minister Zoran Stanković has said that requests of health workers will be fulfilled and that their wages would not be lowered.

Serbia’s Health Minister Zoran Stankovic has said that requests of health workers will be fulfilled and that their wages would not be lowered. Around 1,000 health workers gathered in downtown Belgrade on Wednesday and demanded improvement of their financial situation. Minister booed during health workers’ protest The protest was organized by the Trade Union of Healthcare and Social Protection Employees after it had been announced that health workers’ wages could be lowered. Stankovic addressed the protesters but he was booed for several minutes. The protesters called the minister a thief and he said that “he will leave if it is proven that he is a thief”. After the minister’s speech, the protesting health workers headed to the Serbian government headquarters in order to officially hand over their requests. They also demand a consistent implementation of collective agreements and that they be immediately signed in health institutions that still have not done so, including special collective agreements for social protection. Doctors and Pharmacists Trade Union members went on strike on Tuesday over the Decree on correction coefficient, which would reduce the salaries of all healthcare employees by 10 percent relative to the current figure starting from July 1.
