Residents in some western and central parts of the country are since yesterday receiving their water supplies from water trucks. At the same time, awaiting rainfall, authorities have started to "lower the biological minimum" of the Rzav River, one of the sources of drinking water in the region. Some improvement in drought area Public Enterprise Rzav Director Ljubo Lazovic told FoNet news agency on Saturday that their teams were in the field trying to perform this operation, meant to boost water supply. "Our employees are in the field attempting to regulate this, in order to produce extra water for production. However, not even 450 liters per second will suffice for normal water supply of the five municipalities affected. There will still be restrictions, this will not be solved until there is rainfall, in other words, until the Rzav water levels are back to normal," he said. Officials say that the five Moravicki and Zlatiborski district municipalities are today facing "mildly improved" water supply conditions. Serbian police and army units were deployed yesterday to help in the area. The Ministry for Environment said that the planned reduction of the biological minimum in the river to 100 liters per second "will not endanger plants and animals" that live there.
