Civil society organizations have called on President Boris Tadic to meet with the organizers of this year's Pride Parade and show his unequivocal support. The gay parade in Belgrade is set to be held on October 2. NGOs call on president to support gay parade The statement notes that Tadic voiced support for the event on June 22, when he said the Pride Parade should be seen primarily as "a political gesture through which a minority community legitimizes its human and civil rights guaranteed by the Constitution, and through which it also wants to dispel negative stereotypes and the prejudice they encounter and which make their daily lives difficult." The NGOs expect Tadic will be consistent in his policy and do everything within his authority to truly make Serbia a society safe for all its people. This year's Belgrade Pride will be held October 2, but the exact location where the members of the LGBT community will gather has yet to be announced. (file)
