Peace march in memory of Srebrenica

A peace march will be held from Tuzla to the Potocari memorial center in commemoration of the Srebrenica genocide victims. For the first time, people from Serbia will be participating in the march. Peace march in memory of Srebrenica Milica Tomic, an activist from the Women in Black non-governmental organization, said she and another man would be joining the march, which would mark the first time anyone from Serbia had participated in the march, which follows the same route that people took 13 years ago in an attempt to flee the genocide. Tomic said that the march was being held for the fourth time and that over 2,500 people from the former Yugoslavia and other European countries would participate in order to pay tribute to those killed in 1995. She said that the march was being organized by those who managed to escape by running through the woods. “We started on Monday, and we are currently halfway between Srebrenica and Tuzla in Grbici. We expect to arrive at the Potocari memorial center on July 10 in the evening,” she said, adding that on Friday, the marchers would attended the funerals of 307 victims identified in the meantime. A total of 2,907 victims have been buried at the Potocari center thus far. A film produced by Tomic called “The Women of Srebrenica Speak” will be screened tonight in Belgrade’s Republic Square in commemoration of the victims. More than 8,000 Bosniaks were killed in Srebrenica in July 1995, and last year, the International Court of Justice in The Hague ruled that the Republic of Srpska military had been guilty of genocide.
