Launch of "Find me" system; Vučić: Nothing is more important than the life of a child

The system refers to the urgent notification of the public in the event of the disappearance of a minor.

At the very beginning, Igor Jurić spoke and thanked everyone for coming to support the application, but also to discuss the safety of children.

He recalled everything that had been done for the safety of children in Serbia. He emphasized that this is the first system in the region, that he spoke with representatives of similar associations and that they consider this an impressive application.

He also mentioned that President Vučić is most deserving of the "Find Me" system.

As a reminder, the "Find Me" system was implemented at the initiative of the Center for Missing and Abused Children (CNZD), and the CNZD founder Igor Jurić, the US Ambassador to Serbia Christopher Hill, and the Minister of Internal Affairs Bratislav Gašić will address the crowd.

Igor Jurić, founder of the "Tijana Jurić" Foundation, told B92.net how important this system is for our society and explained how "Find me" will work in stages. President Vučić will issue a permit for putting this system into operation, after signing an agreement between relevant ministries, and the public will be presented on the spot how the alarm system will look and function when a child goes missing in Serbia.

President Vučić's address

President Vučić spoke and said that the character of society can best be seen in how society behaves towards its children.

"Who can be more important to a society than children? Nobody," he said.

He said that "3,889 disappearances were reported in Serbia, of which 3,859 were stopped. If this system helps to find even one child, then the entire investment in this system will pay off."

"In addition to all the territorial problems that the country has, everyone often focuses on solving those problems, so sometimes you forget about 'smaller' things," said Vučić.

"Only after many complaints do you realize that we didn't do the basic things, and only then do we react," he added, noting that we all look for the culprit in others, and we haven't done everything in our power to deal with a specific problem. He added that peer violence is always present, only now with the help of social networks we see it more.

Speaking about the "Find Me" system itself, he said that the police did not accept this easily, but he is proud of the fact that they accepted the news, but that all this will be less important when they see that they saved at least one child's life.

"Everything you managed to organize is of great importance for our society," added President Vučić.

He also referred to the changes in society, that he will never agree with the spoiling of children and major changes in education.

He appealed to the police officers, who are in schools, to always check the system, although he pointed out that there should be no panic, that "people should not think that we have 40, 50 children disappearing every day".

He added that despite all the bridges and kilometers of roads they built in the previous period, nothing is more important than the life of a child. He also mentioned that President Vučić is most deserving of the "Find me" system. Jurić mentioned that after the tragedy in May, he realized that we had failed and forgotten about the priority, which is the children. He added that for the first time his association will receive state aid for a new project, which is preventive work with children who have behavioral problems.

He also thanked the US ambassador who helped them develop this application, noting that they need their experience for this system.

US Ambassador Christopher Hill also attended and thanked Minister Gasic and the President for the support they provided to this project.

He pointed out that he was proud to have had the opportunity to represent the USA and his small role in starting this system. "Caring for children is a global responsibility and there is nothing more important than that," Hill added. He expressed his gratitude to all those who expressed their desire to participate in the system, including airports, Serbian roads and railway stations. Interior Minister Bratislav Gašić also addressed the media.

The ministers of the competent departments then signed the agreements that officially launched the "Find me" system.
