Opposition Serb Progressive Party (SNS) leader Tomislav Nikolic met in Brussels with European Enlargement Commissioner Olli Rehn. The two discussed ways in which the European Union could help Serbia overcome the effects of the economic crisis, the party said in a statement. SNS leader Nikolic in Brussels According to this, Nikolic said that "the most important foreign policy goal for Serbia is the fight for foreign investments, especially from the EU", adding that his party will support more simple legal procedures for investments and security guarantees for investors in order to try and normalize regional relations. Nikolic said that he "received firm assurances from EU senior officials that they will not ask Serbia to recognize Kosovo's independence in order to continue the integration process", adding that this is "important in order to gain the trust of Serbia’s citizens and continuing the association talks".
