BELGRADE Serbian President Tomislav Nikolic and PM Ivica Dacic met with Serbian Orthodox Church (SPC) Patriarch Irinej on Wednesday. Metropolitan of Montenegro and the Littoral Amfilohije and Bishop of Backa Irinej also attended the meeting. Daily Blic writes that the patriarch was supposed to present the SPC’s proposal for protection of the SPC cultural and historical heritage in Kosovo to the president today. Nikolic met with the patriarch on Monday and they agreed that the mandate of international organizations in Kosovo obligated them to protect the rights and safety of people and guard the religious structures in the province. Nikolic and Irinej expressed concern about the safety of the people and the SPC in Kosovo on that occasion. The president informed the patriarch about the content of the conversation he had with Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew in Istanbul on February 5. Nikolic and the patriarch also discussed future events that will be held to mark 1700 years of the Edict of Milan, the president's press office said in a release.
