Kosovo daily Koha Ditore editor-in-chief Agron Bajrami says that the UN plan for EULEX deployment is causing tension within Kosovo’s political scene. “The heart of the problem is that the six-point plan is an attempt to appease the demands and extreme behavior of the Serbs, especially in the North, after the independence proclamation. The author of the six-points is not Ban Ki-moon, but Slobodan Samardzic and Kostunica’s government,” Bajrami told Belgrade daily Danas. “Kostunica, not Ban, came up with six points" He said that the international community is, "for its short-term goals", prepared for a compromise, "which will satisfy the extreme and nationalistic demands to establish and legalize a parallel life in Kosovo and create a Serb entity". “I think that the story of the Balkans is repeating, where the international community is using the region for its short-term goals, and agreeing to compromises which satisfy extreme and nationalistic policies and demands. That is how the Republic of Srpska was created, that is how a parallel life in Kosovo is being legalized now—Serbs in one system, Albanians in the other. In fact, a Serb entity is being created in Kosovo, which has different laws than the rest of Kosovo. That will certainly not help stability and it will give more strength and influence to the extreme factions in Kosovo,” Bajrami believes. He said that "everyone loses from such a situation". “Kosovo is not the only loser, everyone is. Kosovo loses because the internal functionality of the state is hurt by this. The international community, especially the European Union, loses because they get a legalized ethnic partition and they treat it as a solution not a problem, all because of shirt-term goals. And the Serbs in Kosovo lose because one thing is to have a plan, another is to realize it—in the zones where Serbs live south of the Ibar, I think that it will be very hard, even impossible to realize what Ban Ki-moon is recommending,” Bajrami said. This journalist added that "despite all the efforts, Serbia’s politicians will never be able to reaffirm sovereignty over Kosovo".
