Customs officials in Horgoš have discovered a large quantity of unregistered cigarettes valued at around EUR 25,000 in a van entering Serbia.

Customs officials in Horgos have discovered a large quantity of unregistered cigarettes valued at around EUR 25,000 in a van entering Serbia. According to a statement from the Customs Administration, customs officials discovered a large quantity of cigarettes and cigars of various brands during a search of a Mercedes van last night. Cigarette smugglers nabbed at Hungarian border The statement adds that altogether around 300 boxes of cigarettes and 70 packets of cigars were found, with a market value of some EUR 24,610. “Since the value of the goods is over a third of the value of the vehicle, the Mercedes van, worth EUR 13,000, has also been temporarily seized,” reads the statement, adding that the total value of the offense is EUR 37,610. It has been confirmed that the owner of the goods is M.Z. from Belgrade, one of the vehicle's occupants. The statement states that the driver I.S. from Pozarevac and the aforesaid M.Z. have been charged, and that the goods and the van are being held in police custody.
