Travel abroad is in every sense of the word a luxury for young Serbians, the Vienna daily Der Standard says. The newspaper today point out that Balkan experts "see a direct link between the limited freedom of travel and Serbia's isolation". "Generation of Serbians doesn't know EU" "Foreign ministers constantly keep announcing greater liberalization of the visa regime, but interior ministers know nothing about this," Pact for Stability in South Eastern Europe Special Coordinator Erhard Busek said. The diplomat criticized this EU policy, "particularly regarding Serbia". "One generation of Serbians do not know Europe at all," he said. "Around 75 percent of young citizens of Serbia have never been abroad. That is a disaster," said Olja Homa, executive manager of the Serbian Citizens' Pact for South Eastern Europe, a non-governmental organization that advocates visa relaxation and freedom of travel for the residents of this region. "Many Serbs believe that Europe does not want them. This creates anti-European sentiments that are then used by nationalist politicians." "f there are so many Serbs who have never seen another European country, then the EU should not wonder that there are anti-European sentiments," Community of Serb Clubs in Vienna Vice President Darko Miloradovic was also quoted by the Austrian daily.
