"The investigation is continuing, there are people who are being searched for. There could be new apprehensions, arrests and detentions. The process is not completed yet," Yildirim told Sky News.

He also said that Turkey is determined to have Turkish Islamic preacher Fethullah Gulen, who lives in self-exile in the United States, and whom Ankara believes was the mastermind behind the coup, extradited.

"We don't have any intention of breaking any relations but we need to underline that we are determined, and we have indicated this to the U.S. government. We shared all the details with them and, from this point on, the task falls on the shoulders of the U.S. government," Yildirim said.

He would not rule out the possibility that his country may reintroduce the death penalty, telling the broadcaster:

"The citizens are coming out on the street for the death penalty to be reintroduced - this is the only voice that we hear in all the squares."

Yildirim also spoke about Turkey's relations with Russia ahead of the visit on August 9 to St. Petersburg of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

"We will see more developed relations and that is what needs to take place, because Turkey is a neighbor to Russia. We have common interests, a common future," said the prime minister.
