Dittmann presents Djindjic Foundation-DAAD scholarships

Handing out 30 of the 50 scholarships awarded by the two foundations, Dittmann said that, in his nearly one-year tenure as ambassador, he has seen many exceptionally talented young people who are the foundation of the future of Serbia's development.

That is also important for us in the EU, and another reason why we are working together to get Serbia into the EU, Dittmann said.

Serbia is not the only country benefiting from students going to Germany to take part in business programs awarded by the Zoran Djindjic Foundation and DAAD - so is Germany, Dittmann said at the foundation's first joint award ceremony, held in his residence.

The scholarship winners will have the opportunity to work at German companies such as Siemens and Bosch, and by returning to their country, they will give a great reason to German companies to come to Serbia, the ambassador said.

Ruzica Djindjic, the director of the Zoran Djindjic Foundation and the widow of Serbia's slain prime minister, said that the 13 generations of scholarship holders are a confirmation of the "quality that can get Serbia closer on the path to European integration."

Serbian Minister of State Administration and Local Self-Government Kori Udovicki called for establishing similar exchange programs in the public administration sector.
