"Serbia will continue advancing toward us," EU confident

Earlier on Monday, Mogherini's spokesperson Maja Kocijancic voiced confidence at a press briefing that, under a new government, Serbia would continue advancing toward the EU.

“At Serbia's invitation, international observers were monitoring the elections and we are currently awaiting their first assessments and their recommendations. A statement will be issued as soon as we have slightly more information,” she said.

“In the last year, Serbia has taken major steps on the EU path with the opening of the first chapters, and we are confident that with the new government, Serbia will continue on this path,” she said.

Regional leaders, including Croatian and Bulgarian prime ministers, and RS President Milorad Dodik, also congratulated Vucic on the election victory, as did Austrian Foreign Minister Sebastian Kurz and other officials.
