Serbian President Tomislav Nikolic opened a newly-built athletics hall in Belgrade on Tuesday ahead of the first international indoor competition Serbia Open.

President opens new athletics hall in Belgrade

“There is no one like our athletes. They have won medals with our flag, singing our anthem, while in their own country they did not even have an athletics hall, not even for trainings,” the president said.

It took six years to build this sports hall, he said, noting that it complies with all the standards of the International Association of Athletics Federations.

The opening ceremony brought together Minister of Sport Vanja Udovicic, President of the European Athletic Association Svein Arne Hansen, President of the Athletics Federation of Serbia Veselin Jevrosimovic, Mayor of Belgrade Sinisa Mali and Serbian tennis player Novak Djokovic.
