Montenegro to pay EUR 130K to brutally beaten protester

The Montenegrin government will pay EUR 130,000 in damages to Milorad Martinovic, who was beaten by the police during an opposition-organized protest.

Montenegro to pay EUR 130K to brutally beaten protester

The Montenegrin government reached an out-of-court settlement with the victim's lawyers and on Monday adopted the Interior Ministry (MUP) proposal to pay the damages, Interior Minister Rasko Konjevic told Podgorica-based Pobjeda newspaper.

The country's prosecution is investigating the incident, while two members of the police unit who reportedly admitted to taking part in the assault have been detained.

The police came under strong criticism in Montenegro in the wake of the incident.
