The B92 Fund has in this way undertaken full responsibility for the repair works.

Milanovic said that the municipality secured the initial RSD 14 million from EU funds, but that this amount was not enough.

"Therefore we called on our friends from the B92 Fund to help with the complete reconstruction from the foundations to the roof," he said, explaining that the school will get new carpentry, isolation, facade, and plumbing on both floors, and adding he expected works to be complete by the start of next school year.

Veran Matic said that the Fund launched its "Battle for Schools" campaign as a logical continuation of the "Battle for Babies" and "Battle for Maternity Wards," convinced that Serbia's priorities today lie in developing health care, education, and culture.

"That is why we decided to help the local-self government of the Svilajnac municipality with other donors such as the Novak Djokovic Foundation, NIS, and others," he said, and added the Fund was convinced that the renaissance the municipality has enjoyed in the past year should become a model for other self-governments.

"Only once we are fully committed to each segment of modernization of basic levels will we be able to speak about a modern state that cares for its citizens and the future of its society in the best possible way," Matic noted.

The signing of the protocol took place during the official opening of the completely reconstructed Gymnasium high school in Svilajnac. This school was also damaged in the flooding, and has now been completely repaired. The cost of the complete reconstruction reached RSD 29 million, with the funds provided by the EU via UNOPS.
