Serbia sends letter to UNSC regarding Srebrenica draft

The letter points out that "the Republic of Serbia pays tribute to all victims of the conflict in the former Yugoslavia and is firmly convinced that our memories and activities aimed at not forgetting the past should be solely in the function of reconciliation and promotion of regional cooperation and good neighborliness."

The letter emphasized that "the legacy of the past must not be an obstacle to our common future."

It adds that starting precisely with that premise, Serbia received the draft resolution from Great Britain, on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the crime in Srebrenica, "with surprise."

"Serbia believes that no resolution can contribute to reconciliation in the region, but will, on the contrary, cause tensions, frictions and further destabilize it. Serbia understands neither the meaning nor the purpose of the resolution, that would, beside affecting a destabilization in the region, further influence a destabilization of political relations in the Republic of Serbia," stated the letter sent to permanent UN Security Council members - China, France, Russia, the United Kingdom, and the United States.
